About Us
Moonlight Nursery is based in Millsboro, Delaware. I specialize in African violets with a few other gesneriads sharing the growing shelves.
Since I was walking, I was growing plants with my mom. When I was around 10, my mom and I placed an order for African violet leaves - through the mail, from a black and white printed list (and this was in the 90s!). My love of growing plants languished a bit in college but when my husband and I purchased our home after college, I went to work planting a large garden and planning and planting perennial beds around the one acre lot. After our first son was born, my mom and I again placed an order for African violet leaves, this time online!
After seeing several commercial vendors retire, I felt that this was a good opportunity to establish myself as a commercial vendor. I have worked directly with a large vendor who was retiring to acquire many vintage and unusual varieties. I have also worked with several individual hybridizers to bring their varieties to the market. George McDonald, hybridizer of the Mac's series, was the first hybridizer I met. His Mac's were the impetus for my jump into the commercial world - they are so hard to find! The late Janet Stromborg, hybridizer of the Allegro series, also allowed me to purchase many of her lovely varieties. I am also working with the current hybridizer, Jeff Jackson, to market his unique Imp series.
I am licensed by the State of Delaware and hold Nursery License #2098A. I am a member of the following: African Violet Society of America (AVSA), African Violet Society of Canada (AVSC) and Mid Atlantic African Violet Society (MAAVS).
